Discussing the cause
We start by discussing when your hair loss began and how it has progressed. We also ask about your family history, recent illnesses, childbirth, restrictive diets and any changes in your medication. Older photographs of your hair often help us assess the change over time.
Examining your scalp
We look at the thinning pattern, the condition of your scalp and the appearance of the hair shafts. These findings guide our next steps. Depending on the clinical picture, we may suggest targeted blood tests, trichoscopy or a referral to a dermatologist. We do not request the same broad laboratory panel for everyone.
When to seek prompt help
Schedule an appointment promptly if you notice pain, marked redness, scaling accompanied by thinning, eyebrow loss or sudden bald patches. For certain forms of scarring alopecia, stopping the disease early is far more important than rushing into procedures like PRP.
